Female Financial Dilemma: Shoes or Stocks?
Filed under: Banks, Budgeting & Planning, Investing
I love shoes. From waterproof wellies to ankle boots, from flip flops to metallic sandals, there isn't a shoe that I don't covet. With Sex and the City 2 in movie theatres, I've been inspired to add to my summer wardrobe. But, would I think about a savings plan to plan a girlfriend's getaway like the SATC2 characters?
I invest in shoes, but I don't think as much about my financial portfolio. My investments have been acquired because of previous jobs and suggestions on how to save money usually relate to taking cash that may have been spent on shoes. So what about you – what would you rather do? Shoes or stocks?
TD Waterhouse, TD Ameritrade and TD Waterhouse UK developed the Shopping or Saving? Quiz, a new survey to help women consumers figure out how to strike the right balance between instant gratification and long term satisfaction in their wardrobe and financial planning.
The survey focused on women, who are the major influencers for household spending in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. Questions in the survey are focused on situations like buying groceries, receiving a promotion or getting last-minute opportunities to travel or spend, with post-survey analysis encouraging those shopping skills being used in the world of investment.
According to Patricia Lovett-Reid of TD Waterhouse, women who understand the benefits of a classic little black dress, should look at investments the same way, considering adding investment grade bonds or blue chip dividend paying stocks. Lovett-Reid also encourages consumers who indulge in online shopping, to indulge in online investment research, where many can benefit their portfolio with flexible, self-directed investment products, such as an RRSP, from online discount brokerage.

The survey also offers a free investment calculator with financial planning advice, based on responses and tailored to residents of Canada, the United States or United Kingdom.According to Patricia Lovett-Reid of TD Waterhouse, women who understand the benefits of a classic little black dress, should look at investments the same way, considering adding investment grade bonds or blue chip dividend paying stocks.
