Dash It All! Hood Ornament Causes Bentley Recall

Filed under: Consumer Complaints, Product Recalls

For owners of luxury vehicle Bentley, a recall has been announced for 1436 cars worldwide.

Volkswagen, the owner of the luxury car manufacturer, is recalling the automobiles due to concerns over consumer safety related to the car's Winged B hood ornament reports The Wall Street Journal.

There have been no reports of any injuries because of the Bentley hood ornament, but the manufacturer issued the recall because a dealer noticed that the spring mechanism located within the ornament can rust and malfunction. If the car was involved in an accident involving a pedestrian, the hood ornament may cause injury.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a statement saying "...there is the potential for the retractable 'B' mechanism to become corroded...in extreme cases this may lead to flying 'B' mascot not retracting when stuck."

Bentley models being recalled include the Arnage, Brooklands and Azure vehicles, released from October 2006 to March 2009. The cars cost between US$221,000 to US$363,000 with the hood ornament optional for some models at an additional US$1290 to US$4440.
