Best Red Wines Under $10, from Toronto Life
Filed under: Bargains, Economizer, Food & Drink
Every once in a while Toronto Life publishes a list of cheap but surprisingly good wines priced under $10. It's a popular list, particularly with the holiday entertaining season on the horizon. And we can personally vouch for the Castillo de Monseran Garnacha and the astoundingly cheap Casal Thaulero from Abruzzi, Italy. Hopefully most of these labels will be available in your corner of the country. Here are the first five recommended bottles. Carry on to the Toronto Life site to view them all:
CALITERRA 2008 SAUVIGNON BLANC RESERVA
(Casablanca Valley, Chile)

CASAL THAULERO 2008 MERLOT CABERNET SAUVIGNON
(Abruzzi, Italy)
For under $7, it's hard to do better than this surprisingly complex bottle with lifted smoky notes, vague blackberry, licorice and earthiness. $6.95. LCBO 621953.
CASTAÑO LA CASONA 2007 MONASTRELL
(Yecla, Spain)
Full bodied and soft, this red hints at elegance that's rare for the price range. $8.95. LCBO 143743.
CASTILLO DE MONSÉRAN 2008 GARNACHA

A fruit bomb with red licorice and strawberry-rhubarb pie flavours. $8.95. LCBO 73395.
