Filed under: Food & Drink, Shopping, Pop's Wallet

father's dayFather's Day is coming up once again and it's not too early to start thinking about what to get the special man/men in your life. If, indeed, you have more than one gift to buy, have a look at these five fun and frugal gifts for Father's Day.Fishing Fan - The dollar store has a cool tripod folding stool that costs $2 and would work great for sitting beside a stream waiting for the fish to bite. There's also a small tackle box with a removable tray for $2 that you can put a package of Mako spinners or soft bait in. These cost $1 for a package of two and $1.25 each, respectively. You can also get John Peterson's soft plastic "Slurpies" in a package of three for $2. All together, this gift will cost about $8.25.

Backyard Party Kit - Dollarama has a large round plastic bin with handles for $2 that would be perfect for keeping drinks cold. Fill it with any combination of BBQ tools Dad might like or need. You can get a BBQ scrubber for $1.25, a spatula with a serrated edge for $2, handled metal skewers in a six pack for $2, a silicone basting brush for $1.25 or a metal chicken roaster for $1.25. Then throw in some Heinz original BBQ sauce for a buck. For $10.50, you can give Dad everything mentioned here.

Dad's Day Off - You can get a large galvanized bucket at Dollarama for $2. Put filler in the bottom then add a couple of beer glasses for a buck each, a bag of peanuts or chips for a buck and two to four cans of his favorite brew. Add a crossword or Sudoku puzzle book for $1, if you know your dad enjoys brain teasers. This will cost about $6 plus the cost of the beer.

Car Crazy - There's an As Seen on TV product called 1 Step that contains one wash and wax sponge, one detail and degreaser sponge and one 13 by 10-inch chamois for drying. The sponges have soap, wax and degreasers built into them and are good for up to eight washes. Dollarama is selling these kits for $2 each. They also have an 100% natural leather chamois for a buck and individual Armorall sponges for interior car cleaning that cost $1 each. Put it all in a plastic bucket and you've got a gift for Dad costing around $6.

Mix 'n Match - I saw a variety of items that Dad might enjoy, among them:

  • Fruit of the Loom heavy cotton t-shirts for $2. Sizes are mostly extra large and medium and colors are limited, so it depends on your Dad's particular tastes whether or not one of these would suit.
  • A long-handled metal shoehorn for $2.
  • A two-pack of magic shine sponges for a buck, good for cleaning leather shoes, luggage and briefcases. These are great for the traveling man.
  • A two-pack of soft covered belt and tie hangers that will hold 24 ties/belts for $2.
  • A "Canada" passport cover for $1.25.
  • An aluminum "safe card holder," to protect Dad's banking and identification cards from electronic theft, for $2.

There's plenty to choose from that won't break your budget. Just wrap your choices up in love and you can't lose.
