Build with ICF (Styrofoam and concrete) blocks and you will not need any AC. My house stays at 72-74F without using a single watt of electricity.
The Trick to saving electricity is to use less of it. Use efficient appliances. My home uses on average 450 Watts per hour. My home has also been off grid for 12 years!
if you want to save money dont go with direct energy. sure the utility rates are high, but if you go with direct energy you will pay even more
