What's On Sale in September and October

Filed under: Budgeting & Planning, Saving, Shopping

The seasons are changing and so is the retail cycle. Time for shops to get summer items off their shelves and put them on sale. While we don't advocate going into debt (the average non-mortgage debt for Canadians is a staggering $26,000), we also know that you have to buy some of these things sometime, and why not do it when they're heavily discounted?

We all know that summer clothes are on sale, but what else is on sale in September and October? Click through the gallery to find out.

Electronics

If you're looking for a new laptop, the best time to buy is the end of August and early September. It's back to school time so prices have been dropped to entice shoppers into the stores for something new and shiny.

Lawnmowers

Hardware stores need to make room for new products and Halloween decorations. Your lawn is going to be covered in dead leaves and snow very soon so now is the time to get a lawnmower and put it away until next spring.

Shrubs, bulbs and other greenery

Avid gardeners know that September to November is the time to stock up on bulbs and other greenery. Some of them do need to be planted before the spring while others just need to be cleared out to make room for things like Christmas trees. Yes, we went there.

Swimsuits

It's still hot but swimsuits have been slashed to sell to make room for sweaters (yes, we know but sweaters and coats are in the stores). If you need a swimsuit get one now because they'll be gone very soon.

Patio Furniture

Are you seeing a theme here? Just like lawnmowers and swimsuits, other summer-related items like patio furniture goes on sale in September.

Cars

New cars hit the lots soon so last year's models need to go. You can get what is pretty much a brand new car for a good price and extremely low, if any, mileage.

Big appliances

Just like cars, new innovations affect big appliances so the old ones need to go. It might even be just new colours so if you're not concerned about the colour of your fridge or washing machine, snap up that power dryer in October.

China and Flatware

Like everything else, china and flatware are subject to design cycles.
