Kings of the Ice: Who Makes the Most in the NHL?

The day of reckoning came... and went. And now we know the score. No hockey for the forseeable future. How will this nation survive?

The National Hockey League has locked out its players, meaning the 2012/13 season will almost certainly be delayed or cancelled.

While we all light a candle and say a prayer that the season may be saved, let's see who has the most to lose - which players have negotiated the biggest salaries from their respective teams to make the A list of professional hockey players.

The hockey players making the big bucks (and the majority are still in their 20s, except two*) :

SLIDESHOW: Top 10 NHL Salaries

10. Jason Spezza9. Mike Richards8. Eric Staal7. Sidney Crosby6. Alex Ovechkin5. Evgeni Malkin4. Vincent Lecavalier3. Ilya Kovalchuk

(*Lecavalier and Richards are the two players over 30 - both age 32)

How about a story on NHL team owner top ten money maker, huh?
So what if the players make tons of money? NHL is a business, that's why the billionaires owners are in it. Seems like the owners care maintaining a return on their investment than the fans enjoyment.

Nice job but how come you put Brad Richards picture in place of Mike Richards and vice versa, one too many Richards obviously!

I stopped watching pro hockey on TV when they started advertisements on the boards ... It was too hard to see the puck ... And that has led to the "sport" being a complete money RACKET !!!

No one should be paid that much it's absolutely ridiculous. They get health care, and other perks as well and they're usually not to bright but if they end career young they still have a lot of sports related jobs they could do.

This is why I haven't gone to baseball or hockey game because of the outrageous ticket prices.

How would these hockey players enjoy doing a real meaningful job, like driving a delivery truck, or doing construction on houses or highways? They need to give their over sized heads a good shake. They are just playing a game, chasing a piece of rubber around a sheet of ice, not saving the world or someones life. If one of our neighbors we all have was earning $150,0000 per year, not $2,000,000, for driving a emergency ambulance or being a soldier fighting a war, most people would think that was completely nuts, and that they were highly over paid. For God sake, these hockey players are put up on a pedestal like they are saving the world. They get free travel and hotel expenses, for 8 or 9 months per year, where most good hard working people have to work 12 months per year, with maybe 2 weeks earned vacation per year.
