Kids Save the Darnedest Things: Savings Accounts for Kids
Filed under: Banks, Budgeting & Planning, Family Finances, Fantastic Freebies, Saving
There comes a time in every child's life when saving boogers, earwax and lint isn't going to cut it anymore, especially when there's so many awesome toys coming at you during every commercial break in glorious technicolour or, if you're really lucky, high-definition.Besides, if you want any of this cool stuff, you're going to need an allowance. You know: an allowance! It's this thing where you do boring chores for your parents like the dishes or cleaning your room and if you do a good job they give you money and then you can use that money to buy the cool stuff on TV. Here's the thing though, some stuff is big enough and cool enough that you can't buy it right away, you have to be patient and save your money until you have enough. Sure, you could put it in a piggy bank, but soon that piggy bank will get much too full and you'll need something bigger to watch your money and help it grow. C'mon, all the cool kids are doing it.
Lucky for you, there are these places called banks and all they do is watch money for people and, it just so happens, they have ways of watching your money until you're ready to use it again...Of course, not just any watcher will do, you'll need a bank that watches money for kids just like you, all across Canada. Well, just for you, I have found some and they have these really cool things that they do just for kids. Neato, huh? But whatever you do, don't go blabbing to the adults.
Free Sample of Purex 3-in-1
Filed under: Bargains & Freebies, Daily Deal, Family Finances, Fantastic Freebies, House & Home
If you're the kind of person who always opts for Pert Plus as opposed to separate shampoos and conditioners, this free sample may be right up your alley. Purex 3-in-1 is a new laundry product that combines detergent, softener and anti-static in a single sheet. You just drop the sheet in the washer, then transfer it to the dryer with your clothes. Not shabby if you have a tendency to forget the dryer sheet on a regular basis.
Purex claims that 3-in-1 is more sustainable than other laundry products because it eliminates the need for multiple, bulky bottles.

It's time to refresh your summer playlist - after all, one can only listen to "Cruel Summer" so many times. All you have to do is click the iTunes icon, enter your password and the mix will begin downloading.
The Warped Tour is taking place this summer between June 25 and August 15.
Groupthink: Grading Group Discount Websites
Filed under: Bargains, Daily Deal, Fashion & Trends, Food & Drink, Fantastic Freebies, Saving, Technology
If you've seen the ads along the side of your Facebook page asking you to sign up to get the latest daily deal, you've probably figured out that a new phenomenon is afoot. It's propelled by the power of the group buy. These websites promise businesses an incredibly high volume of customers and in return, the customers get a huge discount on the offered product that's somewhere in the neighbourhood of 50% to 90% off
However, there's a catch. (Of course, there always is) In order for the offered deal to be valid, most of these group discount sites require a minimum number of people to buy the deal before the discount is activated for everyone. On top of that, the opportunity to purchase the deal is limited to one day. Following that, the deal expires and then the next deal is put up for grabs.
But isn't that a heavy financial risk for the consumer? Normally it would be, but if you are unlucky enough to buy a deal that dies because of lack of interest, your credit card is not charged. (at least by the sites featured here) Also, the time limit to get the deal is only the window you have to buy it, not to use it. The coupon that is subsequently e-mailed to you has its own restrictions for use, but they don't typically expire within the year they are received. Don't worry, you don't have to run out to frantically use the coupon in a day.
Since there's so many of these group-buying companies out there, we want to grade their ability to fulfill the other half of that coin, promising deeply slashed prices to potential customers who buy in. Each site will be given a letter grade based their presence in Canada, whether they have a time limit or minimum buy-in restriction, the quality of the perks given for sharing the deal with others and finally, the overall look and popularity of the site itself.
Free Slurpees on 7-Eleven Day
Filed under: Bargains & Freebies, Daily Deal, Food & Drink, Fantastic Freebies
What would summer be without our favourite pain-inflicting frozen treats: Mr. Freeze (cuts/swelling in sides of mouth) and Slurpees (brain freeze)? Just the other day, my boyfriend and I were calmly sipping Slurpees when he stopped dead in his tracks, clasped his forehead and bellowed "kill me now!!!!"
You, too, can experience this seasonal delight - for free, in fact - if you visit 7-Eleven stores on July 11. This is officially "7-Eleven Day" and to celebrate, stores are each giving out 1, 000 free Slurpees. For more details, click here.
This might be very popular. In other words, if you want to take advantage, you're having a Slurpee for breakfast.

Between video games, the boob tube and high-calorie snack foods who has time for a game of tag, right? This conundrum is a little too familiar to modern kids. Citing the fact that fitness levels in Canadian children and youth have declined significantly since 1981, GoodLife Fitness is doing something to counteract the couch this summer: it's offering free workouts to teens between 14 and 17.
"Teens should be exercising every single day for no less than 30 to 60 minutes," writes CEO David Patchell-Evans in this newsletter.
GoodLife Fitness clubs (excluding Atlantic Canada) are accessible to the teens between 8am and 4pm for the months of July and August. For more information, click here.

The hilarious part is the deal doesn't specify that junior has to have good grades. So go on, flaunt those straight F's.
