Forget Black Friday. This year's sales are turning into Black November as big-name U.S. retailers slash prices early to win over consumers. The crazy low-price promotions combined with a Canadian dollar trading near parity with the greenback has made November a great month to secure a cross-border bargain before Christmas.
Black Friday -- which falls on Nov. 26 this year, the day after Thanksgiving -- is so called because it is traditionally known as the day when retail business accounts move out of the red and into the black. (ie., from a loss to a profit). However, it appears that retailers are in need of more than just one Black Friday to help secure a profit in 2010 after a year of dismal sales and frugal consumers.
