I like to tell the story of the four-sided metal cheese grater that I bought for a buck when I first started shopping at dollar stores. The same week, I saw the exact same cheese grater for more than three times as much in a major department store.

Studio invisible tape vs. Scotch Magic Tape

Studio invisible tape comes on a roll of 804 inches for a buck, whereas, at Walmart, Scotch Magic Tape costs $2.57 for 800 inches. As near as I can judge, Scotch Magic Tape is only a tad stickier than the dollar store brand. For me, there's not enough of a difference between the quality of the dollar store tape and the brand name to justify spending $1.57 extra.
