Father's Day Gifts Dad Will Thank You For

Father's Day is the neglected runt of the parental tribute holidays, mostly because dads are so hard to buy for. After all, he's a man and if he wants it, the guy will just go out and buy it his damn self. Most fathers are no doubt trying to cut their family's good intentions off at the pass because who wants another mug, tie or personalized silkscreen t-shirt? Fear not, we've got gifts below that he'll actually want. The more home runs you hit out of the park, the more he might actually let you buy things for him.

Five Father's Day Finds From The Dollar Store

Men are notoriously hard to buy for and they aren't much help when you ask them what they want either, because they often dream only of high end items like big screen TVs. The answer to the question, "What do you want for Father's Day," will likely be some variation of, "Nothing," which is nothing if not unhelpful.

And so we are left to make educated gift guesses. To help you with that, here's a list of Dad-friendly gift suggestions that won't break the piggy bank.

Reel Men Are Organized - My younger brother recently got rid of all his DVD jewel cases and put his movie collection into a zippered storage wallet. I thought this a very neat and compact solution to over-crowded shelves and when I espied zippered storage cases that hold 48 discs at Dollarama for two bucks each, I knew this would make a great gift idea for other movie-loving dads.

Clean Machine - Give dad a car care kit that includes a car wash mitt, a tire brush and cleaning wipes for a buck a piece, along with a leather chamois for $2. Pack your finds into a handled tote or a bucket for $1.25 and everything will be at the ready for the next time he wants to pamper his baby.

King of the Grill - If your dad's BBQ utensils have seen better days, there's a great selection of barbecue tools at Dollarama, including spatulas, forks, long-handled tongs and a set of eight metal skewers for $1.25 each. Wrap 'em up with a non-stick vegetable grill to make a gift that's perfect for your resident outdoor chef.

Travelin' Man - Some guys travel often for business so how about a personal care kit to help him stay neat and tidy while on the road. Dollarama has some black neoprene toiletry bags with gray piping for $2. I filled it with a full-sized deodorant, a package of disposable razors, a small can of shave cream, a toothbrush, and some hand sanitizer. The total cost was $8 but you can pick whatever your dad needs and/or likes to help pamper him while he's on the road.

Fore Dad - If your dad golfs, I'm sure he'd appreciate the gift of a package three Top Flight golf balls, along with a package of 48 tees. They're only a buck each and you can pack them into a beer glass or mug to make a nice gift from a child.
