The Recall Report - Scooters, Trikes and Beer

Filed under: Food & Drink, Product Recalls

This week's report focuses on children's toys and adult pleasures.

Health Canada and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a joint recall for the Kiddieland Scooter. The three-wheeled scooter comes with lights and is available in three styles: Spiderman (red), Thomas the Tank Engine (blue) and Girls (pink).

The scooters pose a safety hazard; a child's finger could get caught in the hinge mechanism between the steering column and the platform. There have been two reports of injury in the US where kids fingers needed stitches after getting caught in the hinge, but there have not been any reports in Canada.

The scooters were sold at Sears in Canada and at Target and JC Penney in the United States. Consumers are asked to contact Kiddieland for a free repair kit at 1-800-430-5307.

Canadians Driven To Drink As Wine Sales Surge

Filed under: Fashion & Trends, Food & Drink

Wine sales in Canada are rising six times faster than in the rest of the world, putting Canada on track to become the world's third largest wine importer behind China and the U.S. in the coming years, a global market research report has found.

But increasing imports are not the country's only source of vino, with local production and sales surging. Sales of spirits are also growing steadily.

The report, conducted by research firm IWSR for the wine and spirits industry group VINEXPO, does not track beer sales, although it appears an interesting dynamic is occurring: While the value of beer sales has continued to inch up in Canada, figures show that per capita consumption has been on the decline since the mid 1970s. In effect, Canadians are developing a more "cultured" palate.

Free Roots T-Shirt in Moosehead Cases

Filed under: Bargains & Freebies, Bargains, Daily Deal, Food & Drink, Fantastic Freebies

With the big long weekend coming up, many of you are undoubtedly of the opinion that the beverage of choice ought to be beer.

Now, once you are chugging said brewskies beside a lake, pond or Slip n' Slide, odds are good that you'll find yourself in the company of some schmuck who thinks that, due to the fact that it's 15 degrees Celsius out, it's appropriate to go shirtless in public.

If only you had opted for Moosehead beer, which is now offering free Moosehead-branded Roots T-shirts inside cases of 24, you could have shrieked, leaped into action and covered him up.

Instead, you're probably spending Victoria Day with his bloated, overgrown and (in all probability) unshowered beer gut. Pity.
