Black Friday: Conrad Black is Almost a Free Man
Filed under: Celebs & Money
Black is back. And we in the media love the prospect, if only because we get to write about one of our most infamous scoundrels.Though he unfairly derided journalists more than once, we might forgive him, because his famous arrogance contributed to his downfall. He returns to his native land chastened, and much wiser about what it's like to be poor, uneducated and stuck in America's prison system. We hope he gives some thought to writing about that, and helping the Harper government understand the downside of a system that punishes first without giving enough thought to other aspects of the correctional system, like rehabilitation and victims services.
From the little he's said to the press, it sounds like Lord Black would like to reenter this country with considerably less fuss than when he last left. All well and good, but this time, let him use his considerable gifts to contribute something to the greater good of Canada.
