The NDP aren't alone. Many family-owned businesses and other small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are also grappling with succession plans as baby boomers start to retire en masse and in some cases, pass away. But business groups and advisors say most family-owned firms are not ready for leadership change – because they have not planned sufficiently.

Unemployment Rate Drops Slightly, But Fewer Youths Looking for Work

OTTAWA - The good news is that the unemployment rate fell to 7.6 percent in Canada, the lowest level since January 2009. But there was a notable decline in the number of youths participating in the labor market.

According to the latest Statistics Canada Labor Force Survey numbers for November 2010 published December 3rd, Ontario was the only province in Canada with a notable employment increase. Quebec and Manitoba had employment declines in the month, while the other provinces showed little change.
