shoppers drug martI love when emails from Shoppers Drug Mart are sent to my inbox. That means when I'm buying items from the store - makeup, food basics and shampoo - I'll get a lot of points for items I already need.

Now this part isn't a Daily Deal but when you click through to the Shoppers Drug Mart website, you'll see a contest where you can win a weekend trip for two to New York City. Consider it a nice little bonus!

Canadian Dollar Near Parity, But For How Long?

The Canadian dollar is once again dancing about near parity with the U.S. dollar making this holiday shopping season a great one for snagging some bargains whether you're in Canada or travelling across the border. But how long will it stay there?

The loonie has been historically strong all year, largely because of weakness in the U.S. dollar combined with rising commodity prices. This week it has been trading at about US99 cents. Abnormally low interest rates in the United States at a time of high unemployment and fear of a second dip into recession has made investors shun the greenback, causing most currencies around the world to rise. The loonie has been no exception. But the loonie is not expected to stay near parity forever and the experts are beginning to forecast when it will likely fall and by how much.

Eight Reasons Why Shoppers Continue To Love Dollar Stores

As North America emerges from the recession, dire predictions that consumers would revert to old spending habits when their fortunes improved, appear to be unjustified. It seems that dollar stores just keep on growing and people who started shopping at dollar stores out of necessity are continuing to frequent them. Dollarama recorded sales of $311.9 million for the quarter ended May 2, 2010, an increase of 14.1% over the same period last year. There's a whole lotta shopping going on!

Here are eight reasons why I think shoppers continue to love dollar stores:

1.Stores like Dollarama are well-organized mini department stores, which makes them a pleasure to shop in. You always know what aisle to look in for a picture hanging kit or paper napkins.

2. Consistently low prices on everything. Nothing is more than $2, so you can buy everyday needs like hand soap, garbage bags and stationery supplies for much less than you would in a regular department store.
