SLIDESHOW: Travel for Less in 2013
2. Pay for as many of your expenses as you can in advance.
Hotels, tour packages, car rentals, even many of your meals can be paid for even before you land in your destination. This is a huge benefit for a number of reasons. One, if you've pre-paid for the bulk of your expenses, it's very likely your bank account would have recovered the cost of your vacation through your regular paycheques before you fly off. Second, you'll be more relaxed when you're on vacation because you would have already accounted for the cost of the trip. Third, you'll carry less cash, which limits the damage in case of loss or theft, and you'll swipe your credit card less, which limits the chance of fraud. Fourth, in case you're content with your financial situation, you'll be able to splurge more readily.
