Canada Savings Bond searches over the summer of 2012 were 46 per cent more frequent than in 2011. Conversely, TFSA searches remained steady. Moreover, searches for Canada Savings Bonds are more common in the Maritimes whereas 'tax free savings accounts' searches are far more popular in Western Canada.
What does it mean for you?
Saskatchewan and Alberta are two of the fastest growing provinces, and this is also where income growth is the strongest. One could draw the conclusion that people who earn a lot of money want to protect some of their earnings from taxation in a TFSA.
