After 23 years at the helm the former "King of Laval" was dethroned in early November. Within his first eight years in office, Vaillancourt attracted $750 million in investments, and the city of Laval, Quebec's third largest, flourished. So what brought down his reign of supremacy? The Charbonneau commission. Over the years, his opposition questioned the way he ran the city and accused him favouritism, bribery and corruption. He vehemently denied these allegations but due to the mounting pressure (or evidence) he resigned from office at the beginning of November.
