"Seal Team Six," Disney
On May 1, Barack Obama made a prime-time announcement that Osama bin Laden had been killed by a Navy Seals team known as Seal Team Six. The very next day, newspapers were ablaze with headlines about the event, launching the team into the history books. The day after that, Disney reportedly filled out paperwork to trademark the phrase “Seal Team Six” as its property. Details on why Disney wanted the property in the first place are vague. Some suggested that Disney had hoped to use the trademark for merchandise based around the terrorist leader’s death, but most joked that the name was related to a forthcoming family-friendly adventure film about anthropomorphic seals. In less than a month, Disney yielded to public pressure and dropped its application, forever exiling the thought of a "Seal Team Six" snowglobe to the realm of speculation.
