Wackiest Jobs in the World
6. Golf Ball Diver
As long as golfers keep driving balls into the water, there will be a job for the Golf Ball Diver. These are professional scuba divers who give the course they have a contract with a cut of every recovered ball (buying them for eight cents each or giving them a percentage to sell in the pro shop). Then, the retrieval company they represent sells the balls to chain stores, overseas vendors or online for one-third the retail price. Good golf divers pull in $50,000 to $100,000 annually depending on the economy. All you have to do is brave the murky waters full of fertilizers, pesticides, gators and snakes, along with poachers out to steal their recovered balls.
